About the National Vaccine Catalogue
The National Vaccine Catalogue (NVC) is the Government of Canada’s only repository of comprehensive information on all vaccines authorized for use in Canada. It incorporates standardized vaccine terminology from Infoway SNOMED CT and links this terminology with product details such as Health Canada lot numbers, expiry dates, and DINs, supporting consistent and interoperable immunization data across provinces and territories. To further enhance data accuracy and completeness the NVC also incorporates standardized SNOMED CT terminology for select international and historical vaccines, enabling the accurate recording of vaccines received in immunization registries.
The NVC is available through a Fast Healthcare Interoperability FHIR API or in downloadable format and is updated weekly, or more frequently as needed, to ensure timely and reliable access to vaccine information. Integration with the NVC supports public health surveillance and digital health systems, enabling consistent documentation and seamless exchange of records across the country. This will help maintain accurate and complete immunization records within jurisdictions and nationwide.
The National Vaccine Catalogue includes:
- Vaccine data from Health Canada – Drug Product Database
- Vaccine lot and expiry date information from Health Canada’s Biologic and Radiopharmaceutical Drugs Directorate
- SNOMED CT from Canada Health Infoway
